Onward is a VR Milsim pased First Person Shooter for developed for PC VR and soon to be Oculus Quest. Unlike other PvP shooters available on Oculus Quest, Onward is a hyper-realistic mil-sim paced experience requiring an immense amount of team communication as well as strategy in order to survive.

Generally, it could use some more game modes that offer more traditional FPS gameplay, even if they were just added into existing playlists. In Uplink one team is trying to reach a satellite dish where they must input a code and transmit data, the defending team tries to stop them; escort tasks one team with getting a VIP safely to an evac point while the other tries to prevent it; and Assault is all about holding an area while trying to upload a code from the tablet — plus it has respawns. Agree or disagree with our Onward for Oculus Quest review? Overall Onward has an excellent amount of co-op and competitive content and with the new influx of Quest players that can all connect and play with PC players there should be a large and active community. We have been collaborating with several map creators already, so there are several maps available already that have been updated and are playable, for both platforms. We're aiming to release patch 1.8.4 later this week or early next week; with the release of Patch 1.8.4 we will address a couple of critical issues affecting both PC and Quest users that we feel need immediate attention. Brightened indoors in Bazaar and Downfall.

Onward on Oculus Quest is definitely going to make a lot of Quest users happy. We’re told the developers will continue working on the visuals to make them better, but the fact that the maps are literally getting patched on PC to alter their layouts and resemble the Quest versions more closely tells me more corners are needing to be cut than the team probably expected a year ago when this port was first announced.

We have just released patch 1.8.3 to address an issue where an online lobby could get frozen when a player was kicked from it. Onward on Oculus Quest is definitely going to make a lot of Quest users happy.

Players can choose from multiple classes, each complete their own weapons and two loadout slots. Snowpeak, Turbine and Abandoned are still in production and will require more testing due to their complexity, and will therefore return to Onward later. Fixed collision issues with downstairs areas in Tanker.

In a game like Onward, visuals matter a lot in terms of not only map awareness and line of sight, but also in terms of locating cover, spotting enemies, and more.

Here's a neat little trick: when rising from behind cover to shoot, turn your weapon sideways. Right now the only workaround is making a private lobby, giving them the password, and then making the lobby public and waiting for people to funnel in by chance. At one point when I was practicing my sniping at the shooting range, I leaned over the edge of my real life couch since it was the same height as the in-game sand bags and got an extremely immersive sensation. We've also updated the rotating social game mode to 'One in the Chamber'. I was surprised by how good it feels after putting most of my hours into the game on Vive and Rift CV1 in years’ past.

We will share more on these upcoming changes for Abandoned, as well as the progress of Snowpeak and Turbine in the near future. The less detail on the environment, the harder it is to spot enemies that are literally wearing camouflaged clothing 100-yards away. Good news for fans of haptics: the tactile feedback when interacting with equipment will be coming back to Onward with a vengeance (and upgrades!). There’s also One in the Chamber which gives you a knife and pistol with a single bullet. So, without further ado, here is our complete beginner's guide to Onward on Oculus Quest. If you're interested in reading more about our development process changes you can find a big post on Discord, Steam and Reddit with a lot more details, or simply follow this link to find it. There’s also a wide assortment of maps available created by Downpour that can be used in solo, co-op, or PvP games, including day/night variations for a handful of them.

The loading screen has information but is very quick and once again has blurry text. It’s certainly tough on hard settings, but that’s more a result of the fact it’s impossible to gun down a dozen laser-sighted soldiers than it is good programming or smart design. Tomorrow we'll post a Sitrep about our plans for the coming months, and beyond.

More changes are coming to Onward in the coming months than we have space to write about, but we briefly want to mention a few more. It is mandatory to procure user consent prior to running these cookies on your website. Fixed an issue with desktop spectate that would cause glitching in UI elements. It's a little too early to make a definitive call on that, but we'll keep you updated in our Sitreps. While it lacks the visual fidelity of the pre-1.8 PC version, which is a major hindrance, and is missing community content and Social playlists as of now, the core of what makes Onward, well, Onward, is still here. Fixed Uplink / Assault bug that incorrectly selected fireteam leader from the opposite team, Fixed not being able to hear gunshots when joining an in-progress lobby, Fixed an invisible wall in Bazaar incorrectly blocking bullets, Fixed mismatched collision on the sea container doors in Cargo and Tanker, Fix several issues with Assault boundaries either applying or not applying at random. It also really needs a good party system so you can bring your friends with you into lobbies or at least invite them to lobbies. Use the Custom Content Guide 2.0 document to convert your maps or create a new one for Quest and PC. On the one hand it absolutely feels like Onward on PC. Stay frosty!

Custom workshop content like custom maps were not available at the time of this writing on Quest, but will be added in a future update.

These cookies do not store any personal information. The Onward Workshop has been added back into the game, for all platforms. Gun handling feels great, tracking seems solid, and there’s a wide assortment of maps and several game modes to pick from. Adjusted the lighting in Downfall, Suburbia, Bazaar and Quarantine for better visuals that are more faithful to 1.7. Reflecting on our release and latest update.

Changed the duration of the flashbang effect back to what it was in 1.7.

Copyright © 2020 VRScout Inc. Multiplayer shooter Onward released this week for Oculus Quest. Fixed issues with featured social mode timings. With that in mind, we’re treating this like a full launch. Our goal is to have a new patch or update ready for you every couple of weeks to every month at least. During the pre-release review week I spent most of my time in solo and a bit in co-op, getting a feel for things again. [This was originally an unscored review-in-progress but now that we’ve tested the full game, including online and cross-play, we’re ready to issue a score. Call it out. Tweaked the volumes of atmospheric sounds on several maps.

Thank you for all the feedback. Follow us on Discord or social media to stay up to date with Onward. Those of us who've had the chance to test the initial implementations of the bHaptics suit were blown away by it. Once you've made your way to the battlefield, make sure to duck and cover! Anyone that’s ever had a passing interest in VR shooters has probably heard of or seen videos of Onward. Ever since custom maps were first supported we've loved the creativity coming from our community. We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us. Kneeling behind cover or to prop up a bipod on a window frame feels fantastic.

I’m not a gun expert, but Onward still has, to this day, the best weapon handling of any VR shooter I think.

Fixed collision issues with some buildings and vehicles in Bazaar. You can buy it from the Steam store here. Of course, this technique requires that you arelady know the enemies position before attacking. We also use third-party cookies that help us analyze and understand how you use this website.

We will be committed to our PCVR community. Since the release of v1.8 custom content hasn't been available due to restrictions we mentioned in previous Sitreps. Two other small things that Onward has that I don’t think get enough attention are the walkie talkie and tablet. Finally for those who pursue the maximum amount of realism in their games, something at Onward's roots, we have worked with the talented folks at bHaptics to bring support to Onward for their haptic suit peripheral: the Tactsuit. Support for bHaptics body haptics devices was added to the game, on both Quest and PC, so you can feel exactly what shot you and where, and it greatly enhances firing haptics.
