According to Perry: With a higher rye bourbon, we wanted it to have plenty of time in the barrel to smooth out some of the inherent spice of the rye grain. The joint venture is called Heaven’s Door Spirits, a reference to one of Dylan’s biggest hit songs, “Knocking on Heaven’s Door.”. It was part of the sound track for the movie 'Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid'. There is a pronounced pepperiness that gradually gives way to chili-pepper notes. It is on the verge of being just a touch too woody, so I would probably use it in a cocktail rather than as a sipping whiskey, although it would work as a sipper if on the rocks. My mom wanted this song sung at his services. This is a very aromatic whiskey, more so than the typical MGP rye expression.
