He's put up in a fine hotel, and a phone call later he is in the office of Bob Diamond (Rip Torn), who he learns is to be his defense counselor in a trial during which his entire life is to be judged. Daniel certainly didn't expect that he'd be teamed up with a "defender" (Rip Torn, enjoying every line) and find himself in a courtroom with judges and a "prosecutor" (the wonderful Lee Grant) where he has to defend his life. But in DEFENDING YOUR LIFE, the satire has turned into day-old porridge and the man/woman relationship has all the sexual politics of a Steven Speilberg action hoedown. The problem with Brooks is that he has been sent back so much that this is his last chance or he will be reduced to nothingness.
